Adventure From Fez

 

Day 1: Fez - Midelt - Errachidia - Merzouga (460 km): We pick you in Fez which is the first Moroccan city-medina called before "The Athens of Africa". We head to Merzouga desert by a photo stop in Ifrane (The Moroccan Switzerland) and in the cedar forest next Azrou. After spending the Zad pass (2178m), we'll have lunch in Midelt (The apples city). We continue after along the Ziz area with its beautiful valley and canyons to reach Errachidia. We visit the marble and fossils of Erfoud before arriving at the foot of a magical sand dunes and overnight in a Kasbah Hotel.

 

Day 2: Merzouga - Erg Chebbi Tour - Camel Rides (120 km track): After breakfast, the second step is devoted to exploring the desert by going around the Erg Chebbi. We'll visit small villages and oases, the local nomads in tents, the Mifis mines, the village of Khamlia who are black gnawas from Sudan. Sometimes we cross the tracks of the Paris-Dakar on the black desert of volcanic stones, salt lakes, temporary rivers ... After lunch, back to the hostel to start your camels adventure to sleep in the desert under nomad tents and shooting stars ...!

Day 3: Merzouga - Lac Maider - Zagora (90 km road + 160 km track): Early departure to the direction of Zagora in the Draa Valley (the largest palm in the world) through the track via Taouz (old rock engravings), Maider lake and lunch break at a local restaurant or as a picnic outdoors. You explore the desert landscapes as salt lakes, Hamada, black desert, small villages and oases, dunes, mountains, nomadic tents and acacia trees ... Arrive at the old home of caravans to "Timbuktu in 52 days" in the evening and night in a Riad Hotel, where in a desert camp.

 

Day 4: Zagora - Draa Valley  - M'hamid - Erg Chegaga (100 road km /  60 km track): At 9 o'clock, we will make our own departure towards the dunes of Erg Chegaga along the Oued Draa. We will start with a small tour in this large palm grove with its fortified kours, we will visit the ancient village underground Tamegroute known with its local pottery and its history library. Arrival at the oasis of M'hamid and lunch in local restaurant or with our picnic in the open air ... Pursuit of desert way crossing this desert more arid to reach our bivouac located at the foot of the dunes and night. Possibility to attend a nice sunset ... etc!

 

Day 5: Erg Chegaga - Foum Zguid - Zagora - Nkoub (120 km track + 150 km road): After attending the sunrise and breakfast, we continue to go through this wildest desert by small dunes and large dry lake Iriki (30 km), the largest lake in the Moroccan desert. Continue with the black desert of volcanic stones and fossilized rocks to Foum Zguid and lunch. After we arrive at Zagora by the road, then we follow the Draa Valley to reach the fortified village of Nkoub admiring the contrast of the mountains and its impressive palms grove. Overnight in a hostel kasbah.

 

Day 6: Nkoub - Tizi n'Tazazert - Dades Gorges - Imilchil (80 km track + 120 km road): Early at 9 am departure by a beautiful mountain trail through the Anti Atlas via Tizi n'Tazazerte (2200m). We discover the landscapes of the oasis hidden between the black mountains of Jbel Saghro to arriving in the Dades valley and lunch. Continuing for the village M'semrir Then by a mountainous track crossing the high atlas for Agoudal to reach the famous village of Imilchil known with its engagement festival. Overnight in a local Auberge.

 

Day 7: Imilchil - Khenifra - Azrou - Fez (370 km): After breakfast, we leave for Fez by Khénfra crossing the last high mountains of atlas with its Berber villages ... We arrive at the sources of Oum Rabii and lunch in a local restaurant in full area ... Pursuit of road after for Arriving in Meknes (the versailles of the country), then visit Volubilis which is the ancient site of the Romans to finally arrive in Fez at the end of the day and end of our adventure.
